There’s a whole lot of cafes in Chiang Mai. From fantastic coffee to a massive range of vegetarian and vegan choices.

It also has some of the cutest cafe’s! We have visited a lot in our week here, and these are just a few of our favourites (In no particular order, minus the first… Obviously).

Cat Brothers Cafe

Clue’s in the name right?!

Cat Brothers cafe is such a lovely little place, the coffee is great and cheap also! Carly had a vanilla tea there that she really liked, minus the cat hair by the end (her fault, she got carried away).

You order and pay for your drinks downstairs, then when it’s ready you have the option to go upstairs to the cat room if you wish. The room itself is nice, it’s air-conditioned and the cats have plenty or room and toys to play with. There are low tables and cushions on the floor to sit and drink whilst petting your new-found friends.

We got there early in the morning and had the whole place to ourselves, minus the owner who was doing her morning grooming of the cats, they liked that.

It was lovely and quiet and the cats were happy and playful. Probably helped that we paid an extra 20 baht to get a little bit of cat food for them.

The staff were so nice, laughing and smiling and it was just all round a lovely experience.

Clay Studio Coffee In The Garden

This Cafe is just beautiful. Located down a small side street (soi) near Pratu Chiang Mai (south gate) is this little hidden haven from the hustle and bustle of the city.

Upon passing through this ominous looking doorway you find yourself in a quiet and peaceful garden. Inside you will find terracotta statues of animals and buddha, as well as butterflies and even a few squirrels! The huge trees provide a nice cool, shady and relaxing place to kick back and take 5.

The coffee here is great, a little bit more expensive than others, especially for tea for some reason. But the tranquility and peacefulness of the garden make it worth that little extra price tag.

If you want to put your feet up, relax, read a book or just escape for an hour or so this is definitely the place for you.

Find sanctuary in this beautiful walled off garden, rest your legs and forget where you are for a while.

Happy Dessert Factory

If you’re looking for dessert, this is the place to go. I think the Happy Dessert Factory just wins on cute factor, the place was full of couples sharing huge bowls of shaved ice and who knows what else. The menu was quite hard to work out, so we opted for some triple chocolate thing!

Personally I don’t think I’d go for a huge bowl of shaved ice covered in chocolate brownies, chocolate sauce, marshmallows, condensed milk and mango ice-cream again. But, in spite of this the experience of this little cafe was just so nice! The dishes and the cafe itself is just wonderfully decorated and I’ll say it again, very cute.

The huge bowl only cost us 175 baht and it was so worth it! Such a quaint little place, the kind place you’d expect to see in Japan or somewhere other than Thailand. A great find!

10/10 for cuteness.

Into The Woods

Into The Woods is a fairytale themed cafe. They have a great selection of food/drinks and even better wi-fi, making it a popular spott for digital nomads like us working on their laptops.

You can get a wide range of teas, coffees and smoothies.  Pictured above is the Devils Mocha, a coffee with chocolate, rum and hazelnut. Yum Yum.

The staff are super friendly and the cafe itself is beautifully decorated.

The coffees are a reasonable price and the atmosphere is great.

Do check it out!

That’s just a few of our favourite cafes in Chiang Mai!

If we have missed out your favourite haunt, or feel you have one to add to the list, do let us know so we can visit and check it out for ourselves!

  1. One has to remember how much coffee you can drink James, to know that this amount of cafes would not be a problem to polish off in a couple of days 😉 Great photos!
